The Problem

In the burgeoning cannabis wholesale market, the absence of a seamless purchase management system posed significant obstacles for retailers. Currently, retailers are burdened with the laborious task of manually sifting through extensive product lists, cross-referencing them with their inventory, and communicating orders to producers/wholesalers via email. Subsequently, these orders must be manually entered into the retailer's ERP system, such as Leaflogix. This entire process is not only tedious but also highly inefficient, hindering the industry's growth potential.

Peak seasons at the hennep retail store warrant long lines and increased wait times for customers in store. The sale of cannabis products over eCommerce is restricted so it brought about an interesting case for us to tackle. Alternatively, products cannot be presented without a bud tender present either, so customers in line cannot shop like it’s a grocery store. Another layer of complication was the state limit an individual customer could purchase.

The Solution

I worked on developing a B2B ecommerce platform and a B2C instore shopping experience.

To tackle these challenges, I developed an innovative in-store shopping experience focused on improving efficiency and customer satisfaction. I created a mobile app that allows customers to scan QR codes of products while waiting in line, building a virtual shopping cart in real-time. This feature lets users browse the store’s product catalog or scan items directly from in-store displays. To ensure compliance with state regulations, I also implemented an automatic system that calculates and limits product quantities based on local rules.

Upon confirmation of the order, the selected products are curated by budtenders in advance, ensuring a seamless checkout process for customers when they reach the point of sale (PoS) counter. This approach significantly reduces wait times and enhances the overall shopping experience.

The instore app has substantially reduced user wait times from an average of 35+ minutes to just 14 minutes. This improvement not only enhances customer satisfaction but also streamlines operations within the retail store during peak periods.

By addressing the challenges posed by regulatory constraints and customer demand, the product solution has proven to be a valuable asset in optimizing the in-store shopping experience at the Hennep.
